Positions is made by William Mawdsley, an independent developer in the United Kingdom. Every message is read and answered by him.
Positions is a read-only companion for your own IG Markets account. It shows what each position costs you to hold, how much of your own money is behind each one, and how far each can fall before IG steps in.
It places no trades and cannot place one. It reads your account and shows you what it makes of it; every dealing decision stays with you, at IG.
Tap Show a Worked Example on the home screen. That loads a complete sample account with made-up figures, and every screen in the app works from it. No sign-in of any kind.
You need an API key, which you issue yourself from IG's My Account page — the app cannot create one for you. Settings, then Connect to IG, asks for your username, password and that key. They go into this device's Keychain behind Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode — whichever this device uses — and are sent to nobody but IG.
There is a Live/Demo switch on the same screen. A demo key only works against Demo, and a live key only against Live.
Why does the app's "free to trade" figure differ from IG's? IG holds back only the margin it needs. This app holds back everything you have decided to put behind a position, and counts no profit you have not taken. Both figures are shown on the Account screen, along with the difference between them.
Why does a holding cost say it could not be measured? IG does not publish an overnight funding rate through its API. The app works the cost out from what IG has actually charged your account. Where the transaction history does not cover a position's whole life, or where a charge cannot be matched to a position, the app says so rather than showing a figure it cannot stand behind.
Does my data leave the phone? Only to IG, and only where you send it yourself — Backup writes a file where you choose, and Show the Working copies a calculation to the clipboard when you ask. Nothing else exports anything, and there is no server behind this app. See the privacy policy.
How do I disconnect? Settings, then IG account, then Disconnect. That deletes your IG credentials from the Keychain immediately.
Settings, then Report something wrong, opens a message already carrying your version and build number, which is the thing a bug report needs. If you would rather write directly, the address is above.
